Meet the Founder:

  • My name is Phillip. It’s nice to meet you. I’m really glad that you found our website.
  • I am a guest lecturer at Boise State University. I teach in their DSM psychology course about living with Avoidant Personality.
  • I am a retired Pastor.
  • I am the Executive Director of the Avoidant Personality Research Center in Idaho. APRC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness, advancing research, and providing resources for those affected by Avoidant Personality (AvP). Our mission includes supporting not only individuals living with AvP but also their spouses, partners, and loved ones who navigate life alongside them.
  • I’m currently developing a series of classes and support tools designed for individuals and families impacted by Avoidant Personality (AvP).
  • In addition, I host a podcast where I explore honest, often overlooked topics, including AvP, mental health, faith, and the journey toward healing. My goal is to create a safe space for conversation, connection, and hope.

The Avoidant personality Academy

Mission

The Avoidant Personality Academy exists to help people finally see the pattern for what it is. Not a character flaw, not a lack of effort, but a way of coping that was learned early and held on to too long. Most people arrive here after years of believing they are simply broken. Our mission is to replace that belief with understanding, because understanding is where change quietly begins. We teach avoidant personality in plain language, with honesty and without shame, so that anyone who has spent their life on the outside looking in can start to find their way back.

Our Story

For decades, our founder lived with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD) without knowing what it was. The condition affected every part of life, relationships, work, family, and mental health, bringing overwhelming feelings of isolation, anxiety, and worthlessness. It wasn't until receiving a diagnosis that everything finally began to make sense.

That diagnosis became the beginning of a new purpose. After years of recovery and healing, our founder made it a mission to bring Avoidant Personality Disorder out of the shadows. Today, this academy exists to raise awareness, provide practical education and resources, and build a compassionate community where people living with AvPD; and those who support them, can find understanding, hope, and a path toward healing.

What We Believe

At Avoidant Personality Academy, we believe that a diagnosis does not define a person. Avoidant Personality Disorder may explain certain struggles, but it does not determine someone’s worth, identity, or future. Most importantly, we believe hope is possible.

A diagnosis is not the end of someone’s story. With the right support, tools, and understanding, people can build healthier relationships, develop confidence, and create a life where they feel connected and valued.
